Our Stories

Where we tell the stories of some of our projects, and maybe one day, some of our members…

International Mens Day

We had a successful International Mens Day meeting on Tueday 21st November 2023. With members of Winchester City Council and local councillors, members of other Men’s Shed groups that have newly started up nearby and some potential new members.

Our Grants team has been able to support the Shed – pictured are members Cy, Edd, John, Nick, Roger and Colin – as they’ve been hard at work making and fixing all sorts of items for the local community 🔨

As part of last November’s #MensHealthAwarenessMonth, Solent Mind‘s #MindtheGap campaign aims to ensure that every individual understands there is support available to them. The charity says that men are often less likely to open up to friends and family, or reach out for support from professionals. Find out more: solentmind.org.uk/MindtheGap

If you’re feeling low or struggling to cope, you can text ‘HANTS’ to 85258 for free, anonymous and confidential support at any time of day or night.

The Ramp

Since The Shed was built, we were aware that as part of our inclusive community, we needed to make it more accessible for people with less mobility. And now, supported by Winchester City Council, we have been able to buy a very smart ramp that can take large motorised wheelchairs. But we promised our kind hosts, the Scouts that we wouldn’t create any trip hazards, so everything had to be landscaped carefully.
